Reflections on the Las Vegas Tragedy

At Hatley Law Group A P.C., we are deeply saddened by the recent Las Vegas tragedy.

More than ever, we are reminded that life is uncertain and we never know what could happen to us and when, even if we are simply enjoying an outdoor concert.  In light of recent events, the importance of having an up-to-date estate plan takes on a renewed significance.

If you or a loved one does not have an estate plan in place, then we encourage you, in the strongest possible terms, to consider getting one. An estate plan will allow you to avoid a conservatorship in the event of mental disability and probate when you pass on. Additionally, a properly structured and funded estate plan will protect your assets for yourself and your family from creditors and predators.

If you already have an estate plan in place, then please consider  having it reviewed for an update. Changes in the law, your family, and your assets are all good reasons to review your estate plan. It is a common mistake to make an estate plan and never update it. As we all know, your life is ever changing—and your estate plan should reflect those changes.

By establishing an estate plan, and keeping it updated and maintained, you can avoid conservatorship and probate. This is especially valuable if you are married and have children. Take the proper steps today to secure a stress-free future for yourself and your loved ones.
