What will happen during an initial meeting with you regarding my estate plan?
When you are ready to get your legal and financial affairs in order, call our office at (858) 792-3444 to schedule an hour meeting. During this initial consultation, we will discuss your situation. Look for the meeting to be an educational, broad brush fact-gathering session. You’ll get a general idea of what your estate plan might look like and what fees will be involved. We want you to leave this meeting with a clear action plan for what your next steps will be if you choose to work with our law firm.
Do you make sure my assets are titled in the right way?
Yes, we absolutely do! It's sad to say, you can think you have an estate plan set up properly for your family, but if your assets are not structured or titled properly and/or your business does not stay in compliance, your family will be in dire straits when something happens. Improperly set up legal documents will not work as you assumed they would during the estate planning process. At Hatley Law Group, we make sure all of your documents are properly completed.
What should I do with my original documents?
It is important to make sure that your personal representative or trustee knows where your documents are and how to access them. The original documents should always be kept in a safe place. We recommend either in a fireproof safe in your home or a safety deposit box.
After you complete my estate plan, do I need to do anything else?
We recommend you review your documents every two to four years or sooner if you have any major event in your life such as marriage, divorce, birth of children or grandchildren. It’s also important to contact us prior to purchasing real estate or other large assets like jewelry, antique car, yacht, airplane etc. so we can advise you on how to title the asset according to your estate plan directives.
